Benefits

The one-year diploma programme devised by SDPI in partnership with NUI, Galway provides an opportunity for:

The Course

The course consists of three taught modules and a practical experience component. The taught modules are:

  1. The Context of School Planning
  2. The Planning Process
  3. Facilitation Skills

 

Assessment

Participants are assessed on three types of assignment: essay, case-study, and portfolio.

 

When and Where

The diploma course is delivered through a combination of regionally-based outreach sessions and central summer school sessions. Most outreach sessions take place at weekends (Friday evening/Saturday) between October and April—generally, one per month. The locations for outreach sessions in 2010/11 will be finalised in accordance with the pattern of applications. It is likely that there will be 3 regional centres: West, South, and East/Greater Dublin Area. The summer school will take place in NUI Galway in late June.

 

Fees:

The tuition fee is met by the Department of Education and Science.
Participants pay only the NUI, Galway Registration Fee of €775 and their own travel and subsistence costs for attending the course

 

To apply:

Check that you are available on the course dates for 2010/11 (see page 4 of the course brochure) as attendance is mandatory.
Complete the application and registration forms and return them (with fee, 2 passport photos and original birth certificate) to the Course Coordinator by Friday 1 October. Fee payment should be by cheque made payable to NUI, Galway.

Please note:

  1. This is the final year of the subsidy from the Department of Education and Skills
  2. Because of budgetary cutbacks, the number of places available on the course in 2010/11 is strictly limited, so early application is advisable
  3. Where the number of eligible applicants within a region exceeds the number of places available in the regional outreach centre for the course, selection will apply. Preference will be given to applicants who have attended an SDPI Summer School, or have a key role in SDP in their schools, or have more than three years’ teaching experience. Thereafter, places in the region will be offered in order of receipt of applications with complete registration documentation.
